Director, Formulation Development and Aerosol Performance

Summary

This position will be responsible for providing innovation driven leadership for formulation and aerosol performance efforts along with leading a team of formulation scientist and aerosol performance chemists in the development and characterization of pharmaceutical dosage forms based on the Company’s core technologies. Other responsibilities will include working with management on long and short-term strategic direction; project management; presentations to and discussions with potential alliance partners; and participating in the identification of intellectual property and associated patent applications.

Experience
Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Minimum of 15 years experience in formulation development and aerosol drug delivery
  • Formulation development in a start-up environment, venture-backed pharmaceutical or biotech company for early, middle and late stage product development (from drug product perspective)
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing and scaling-up aerosolized pharma dosage forms (nanoparticle, liposome systems, engineered particle forms)
  • Broad knowledge and experience in the application of instruments used to develop and characterize drug formulations
  • Demonstrated leadership for implementation of novel formulations into drug development process
  • Management of multi-disciplinary scientific teams in drug product development and innovation
  • Full knowledge of SOPs, GLP and cGMP regulations
  • Preparation of a CMC section of an IND or NDA
  • Management of large [global] projects for Phase I and Phase II clinical trials
  • Direct supervision of at least five mid- to senior- level scientists
  • Direct management of timelines and financial budgets, as well as vendor and collaborative partner relationships
  • Complex project planning and implementation

Associate Scientist

Perform training and direct supervision of new and temporary laboratory staff. Perform aerosol performance testing of formulations, blister designs, and device prototypes to support the development of novel Dry Powder Inhalers (DPI) using ACI/NGI. Optimize electronic drive schemes and operational parameters of the piezoelectric transducer within the DPI to effect desired aerosol performance attributes. Troubleshoot performance issues with device prototypes and blister design in development, individually and as part of a cross-functional team. Use High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and associated instrumentation and software for the analysis of active drug substances and related compounds in formulations of interest.

Requires
M.S. in Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences plus at least 6 months of relevant experience
