MicroDose
Technologies is a privately held premier drug delivery and specialty
pharmaceuticals company. Founded in 1998, MicroDose is pioneering
the use of proprietary drug delivery platforms for the pulmonary,
oral and transdermal delivery of medications for improved efficacy
and compliance. MicroDose's current focus is on the chronic disease
states such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
MicroDose is a Delaware Corporation.
Drug
Delivery Platforms
MicroDose
has three core technology platforms. Each platform technology
is supported by in-depth technical know-how and a portfolio of
both issued and pending patents, and each can be applied across
a broad range of disease states and therapeutic candidates. They
are:
- The
MicroDose Electronic Dry Powder Inhaler
- The
MicroDose Fixed-Dose-Combination Oral Dosage System, and
- The
MicroDose Needlefree System
MicroDose
utilizes its proprietary drug delivery technology platforms to
create superior products in conjunction with pharmaceutical and
biotechnology partners, and in the development of proprietary
products utilizing generic drugs for its own use. MicroDose's
lead product is an electronically controlled Dry Powder Inhaler
(DPI). The MicroDose DPI is a handheld, low-cost, breath-activated
device that utilizes piezo electronics to efficiently deliver
a broad range of compounds. Such compounds include small or large
molecule therapeutics for both local and systemic applications.
The MicroDose inhaler achieves the holy grail in respiratory
delivery, dose delivery that is inhalation flow rate independent.
It achieves this is in all orientations, and independent of patient
coordination. The device promises to be the first completely
electronic DPI on the market and represents the next generation
in inhaler technology both in performance and ease of use for
patients (see Pulmonary
Drug Delivery).
Our
second technology is for solid oral dosage formats and enables
the combination of two or more drugs into a single pill or capsule,
but separated by a physical barrier. This physical barrier, between
two fixed doses, allows for more rapid development timelines
and lower regulatory requirements, at a fraction of the normal
cost. This proprietary approach may enable patent extensions
on blockbuster drugs whose patents are soon to expire. MicroDose
has identified and is developing several combination products
in the high growth areas of hypertension, hyperlipidemia and
Type II diabetes (See Combination
Oral Dosage).
MicroDose's
needlefree systems approaches encompass battery operated, electromechanical
approaches that control the non-invasive injection of micro-liter
quantities of a drug in rapid pulses until the entire volume
is delivered. Unlike systems using iontophoresis or electroporation,
our systems will be able to deliver both small and large molecules.
The system would be safe and simple to use, inexpensive, quiet,
and would use drugs prepackaged specifically for a unit dose
pack to eliminate cleaning and assure correct dosing (See Needlefree).
